Retail Therapy: Sydney’s

Unlike other stores that consider denim their specialty product, Sydney’s only offers one line of denim—its own. Called United Stock Dry Goods, the brand offers various cuts, washes and materials—from heavier selvedge and raw denims, to lighter and softer cuts that have been sandblasted and washed to be purposely worn and more comforting to the touch. Better yet, it’s all made in Toronto.

“United is a brand that Sydney [Mamane] and his partner Michael [Cavaggioni] came up with,” says assistant designer Amanda Salmon. “It’s based on their need for honesty, quality and integrity. They found a lot of denim brands within the industry — both wholesale and retail — were overpriced for the quality that they were.”

All of the denm procured for United is Japanese selvedge denim, handpicked by Sydney, whose background is in tailoring. Among the most popular selections are slight and narrow fits. The jeans come in a standard 35" length in-seam and hemming is complimentary on regular priced denim. The jeans' price points range from $140-$198, while the shirts range from $150-$198.
