Simulators II & Philippe Blanchard Opening Reception

Details: With "Simulators II," Angell Gallery will be showcasing nine artists–including Napoleon Brousseau, Mitchell Chan, and Alex Fischer–who are engaged in creating “Post-internet art.” For the uninitiated, no, the works on display don’t deal with that hilarious meme you recently saw or the nyan cat. Rather, these artists find various means to marry the virtual and the material and explore ideas such as the hodgepodge of information available at our fingertips and the ways in which people can interact with that information. While you're there, check out "Philippe Blanchard: Color Rhythm," a special light installation by the acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist.
Artisans of the Metropolis: A Junction Bazaar

Details: Do you suffer from a lack of unique vintage or industrial vibes in your home decor or wardrobe collection? Fear not, this is your cure. This monthly bazaar features a variety of local vendors, artists, and artisans such as Night Memory, Curious Oddities, and Steamgummi. And with the event being held in the beautiful Metropolis Factory, you’ll feel like you’re wandering through an Etsy wonderland.
The Leslieville Flea

Details: The Leslieville Flea is back this weekend to satisfy your need for all things hand-crafted, antique, vintage, and more. This week’s flea will feature new vendors such as the goat-themed Haute Goat, the mother-daughter team Shop Betty, and grunge, goth, and avant-garde specialists Wild Thing Vintage.
February Clothing Swap Party
When: Feb. 23, 12 pm to 4 pm
Where: Arts Market, 846 College St.
Details: If you’re sick of your wardrobe, but don’t want to splurge on new clothes, then head on down to this year’s first Swap Don’t Shop Clothing Swap Party! Starting at noon, you get a ticket for every good item you bring and the tickets can be redeemed for new items. And since it’s a party, obviously there’ll be snacks, DIY tips, and on-site alterations. Admission is $5.
What Makes It Great: Beethoven's Violin Concerto

Details: If you’re of the mind that classical music is capital B Boring, composer and conductor Rob Kapilow may convince you to reconsider. Back with his critically acclaimed What Makes It Great concert series, Kapilow along with TSO Concertmaster Jonathan Crow will be presenting Beethoven’s 1806 Violin Concerto. The concert is broken up into two sections—the first involves Kapilow arguing for the work’s greatness, and the second half will be a complete performance of the concerto. Tickets range from $29-79.
Icycle 2014
When: Feb. 22, 7 pm to 10 pm
Where: Dufferin Grove Park
Details: Toronto’s only on-ice bike race is back for its 13th year. While it’s no Disney on Ice or a winter Olympic event (yet), it’s still thrilling–even magical–to watch studded bikes make turns in a hockey rink. Registrations go from 6:30-7 pm on the day of the race, and the race fee is $15. It’s free for spectators, but you’ll have to pay $5 if you want to watch from the penalty box or the middle of the rink. All proceeds this year are going to Bicycle Messenger Relief Fund.
