Power to the Pallett
Toronto musician and composer Owen Pallett, fresh off an Oscar nomination for his work on the film Her, has announced a new album. In Conflict will be released on May 13 via Secret City Records in Canada. Legendary producer Brian Eno, who has done some pretty monumental work with the likes of David Byrne and U2, worked with Pallet on the new recording. Currently on tour as a member of Arcade Fire, Pallet will hit the road in support of his new album in the coming months including a May 10 date in Toronto at the Danforth Music Hall.
Trippy man, real trippy
Hamilton band Young Rival’s new video for their song “Black is Good” is tearing it up online thanks to its trippy magic-eye de-focus aesthetic. According to a press release, the video is “the first random dot autostereogram music video and was created by Jared Raab and Tomasz Dysinski.” Watch it if you dare. The band plays April 24 at the Dakota Tavern.
The Chad
In other killer-new-albums news, Chad VanGaalen is set to drop his own new disc this spring. Shrink Dust, his fifth album, will be released through Flemish Eye on April 29. The album was produced at VanGaalen's Calgary home studio dubbed Yoko Eno. A tour in support of the album kicks off in May in Montreal. Although a local T.O. date has yet to be announced, we strongly urge him to alter his travel plans. Check out the first single, “Where Are You.”

Beck, just because. It's Beck!
Acclaimed musician Beck is preparing to released a seriously anticipated new album entitled Morning Phase, out Feb. 25. The musical chameleon is slowly releasing a few songs including the gorgeous “Waking Light” below. But, we’re also loving Beck’s Record Club. Sure, we should have known. It’s old news. But we love it, so as an added bonus, check out the video below for a very cool cover of Skip Spence’s “Lawrence of Euphoria.” It’s just killer.
