It only takes one step into the lobby lounge of the Shangri-La Hotel for a sense of calm to wash over you. Wannabe guests can still cozy up by the fire in the luxe setting complete with live tunes. In the afternoon, a haute High Tea (think: finger sandwiches, scones and impeccable desserts) is easily bookended by a cocktail.

The libations menu — bound into a book as part of a smart collection of menus — is just as refined as the surroundings. The Secret Earl Grey cocktail ($18) couples Earl Grey-infused Bombay Sapphire gin with fresh lemon juice, egg white and peach bitters, resulting in a tipple that's a comforting solution to the bitter cold outside.

Afterwards hop across the street to immerse yourself in Atom Egoyan's romp of a take on Mozart's classic opera, Cosi Fan Tutte.
