Something men ought to know about: this gold square ring from Vitaly Design

As the menswear movement plows ahead unabated, more and more Canadian men are warming up to wearing things that would have raised eyebrows a decade ago—brightly coloured chinos, more pink, and even blazers with massive floral prints.

And then there is jewellery—a grey area for many of the aforesaid dudes, and still something not many of them are quick to adopt (if only because many of us wince at the thought of wearing anything but a wedding ring). A pity, yes. But, why? For a lot of us, the thought of male jewellery has for years conjured images of cut-rate boy band members and custom car enthusiasts from Jersey draped in gaudy chains and bagel-sized diamonds shaped as dollar signs.

Good thing, then, that we have Toronto accessories line Vitaly. Started by local designer Shane Vitaly Foran, Vitaly technically bills itself as a unisex label (think silver pendants and stainless steel bracelets) but there are a number of quietly masculine accessories available to purchase from the company's site. The square ring you're looking at right now is a perfect example of what we're talking about. Progressive, but not inaccessibly so.

Veritably classic, but in a slightly futuristic way, this little guy was hand-made from gold and high grade ceramics, and he'll go great with anything, whether it's formal or not.

And if anyone asks, just say you're into jewellery.

$100. Available online at Vitaly Design.
