There is something almost perverse about a clutch covered in fur. Like holographic Oxfords, leather T-shirts, and bedazzled Birkenstocks, conventional items made from unconventional materials can be a shock to the system when encountered for the first time. Not only do they offend your good taste, you might question the validity of other people's praise for them. That is, until the hate slowly morphs into a strange fixation, and you find yourself mindlessly looking up mink-lined Birkenstocks on e-commerce sites.
Not saying that this will happen to everyone, but weirdness has a tendency to incite resistance before worming its way into a person's heart. Something to do with acquired tastes and the thin line between love and hate or something. Either way, there's no doubt that anything that can inspire such a strong first impression deserves a second look.
Toronto's Tuck Shop Trading Company has designed something that deserves many, many looks, hopefully while it's sitting in my closet or between my grubby paws. The brand's Trillium envelope clutch makes for a great accessory, as it manages to look both luxurious and extremely petable. Hand sewn from 100% pony hair (which is actually the fur side of calf hide and not made from ponies), each piece is unique and lined with the company's signature snowshoe pattern. Take it with you the next time you feel like raising a few eyebrows.
