There comes a time in one’s life – usually after five consecutive days of productivity – when it’s important to do things purely for enjoyment. This is what is commonly referred to as “the weekend.” Our humble suggestions include a farmer’s market in a brewery, a winter festival, an evening with funny-man Moshe Kasher, and more. Enjoy.
Steam Whistle Winter Farmer’s Market
When: Every Sunday from Dec. 22 to Feb. 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Steam Whistle Brewing, 255 Bremner Blvd
Details: What if you took the wholesomeness of a farmer’s market and added beer—like, a whole brewery full of delicious beer? That’s what we’re talking about here, folks. Choose from organic meat and cheese, fresh baked goods, and all the honey and maple products you can shake an empty pint glass at.
Winterfest on the Waterfront
When: Dec. 21 & Dec. 22
Where: Toronto's Waterfront, various locations
Details: Holiday cheer is taking over the waterfront. Board Mariposa Cruises’ Northern Spirit for a one-hour cruise with Santa, go for a DJ-soundtracked spin around the lakeside skating rink, try your hand at decorating cookies, or subject your pet to embarrassing photos.
Tallboys’ Christmas Craft Beer Carnival
When: Dec. 21, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Centre for Social Innovation, 720 Bathurst
Details: Good food, good drink—in short, you need to go to this. Chow down on delicious $5 Tallboys tacos while sampling seasonal beers from Junction Craft Brewing, Mill Street Brewery, and Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery. Admission is free but $10 gets you a sampling glass and two drink tickets.
Moshe Kasher
When: Dec. 21, 8 p.m. or 10:30 p.m.
Where: Comedy Bar, 945 Bloor St. W.
Details: Kasher is a self-described “white boy from Oakland who became a drug addict, criminal, mental patient, and then turned 16.” Need we say more? He’s a very funny guy.
Kensington Market Winter Solstice
When: Dec. 21, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Corner of Oxford and Augusta
Details: December 21 is the longest night of the year, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. Join the luminescent, lantern-lit procession through Kensington Market, with performers including Samba Squad, Shadowland Theatre, Clay & Paper, Native Men’s Residence, Richard Underhill and the Kensington Horns. Costumes are welcome, and bring your own lantern.
