Despite a slightly misleading moniker, Reds Midtown Tavern isn’t exactly located in the city’s centre — though it’s a pinch more uptown than its elder sibling. The new downtown eatery is similar in taste and tone to the original. Much like the food menu (think: burgers and club sandwiches), the drinks menu plays host to a roster of fail-safe faves.
The Reviver ($12) is their play on the classic Corpse Reviver. It introduces Tanqueray gin to Triple Sec and French aperitif wine Lillet Blanc, for some citrusy zest. Freshly squeezed lemon juice adds some more acidity, while a kick of Hill’s absinthe gives it a hint of anise (though less than with other brands).
The result is a cocktail that will undoubtedly revive even the weariest of souls after a grinding day.
