British expats Filip Jeremic and Allana Reoch first bonded back in 2006 through their uncanny ability to impersonate their instructors at the Ryerson Theatre School. After gaining notoriety among their peers for their naughty impressions, they formed their comedy troupe, British Teeth. Since then, they’ve performed on the Comedy Network and they also hold regular gigs across the city.
We chatted with the duo about Pippa Middleton, eating in bathtubs and, well, British teeth.
How did your duo come about?
Jeremic: our eyes met across the hallowed halls of Ryerson Theatre School where for years we were subjected to a series of challenges to test the body, mind and spirit. Our humour served as the industrial strength adhesive that bonded us through it all.
You've got a pretty cool name. How did you come up with it?
Reoch: it came out of the blue one gloomy evening on the Danforth, and we laughed about it for 10 minutes. We then put the name through our rigorous “48-hour Test.” It is a tool we use to determine the “hilarity-level” of our ideas. If they’re still funny two days later, they’ll be funny for all eternity.
Why do you think the British have, well, “British teeth?”
Jeremic: soft foods and soft rain.
What can people expect from your show?
Reoch: zany characters, fast-paced and witty dialogue, lots of wigs, clever social commentary and a bitchin’ soundtrack.
Which one of you is funnier?
Jeremic: me.
Reoch: me.
You spend a lot of time together. What is something about the other that no one else knows?
Jeremic: she occasionally eats in the bath. I asked her what happens if something falls in. “Just scoop it back out,” she said. “But what if it’s like… a sauce?” “Then mix it in!”
Reoch: I’ve seen Filip’s genitals in every kitchen of every apartment I’ve ever lived in. In a strictly scientific (and comedic) capacity.
Describe the other in one word.
Jeremic: insubordinate.
Reoch: pithy.
Your favourite gig so far?
Jeremic: we once performed at a Chinese party called “Double 50 Happiness” at The Old Mill Inn & Spa.
What's next on the agenda?
Reoch: We have our own monthly show on the second Monday of every month at Comedy Bar. Currently, we're using the proceeds from our shows to raise money to film some hilarious comedy shorts, and in the fall we'll be recording our first comedy album!
Favourite British person?
Jeremic: my Aunt Vera.
Reoch: Pippa Middleton.
