No complaints about any weekend that starts with craft beer and gives you a chance to listen to the blues by the water. Fringe is still going on, but you could also amuse those burgeoning young palaeontologists with a chance to see some dino replicas or take in a festival of Indian delights.
Summer Craft Beer Fest
When: July 10 (5 p.m. – 10 p.m.)
Where: Liberty Market Building (171 E Liberty St.)
Details: Alright so this is hardly the only craft beer rally the city will offer this summer but it seems like a great way to extend a summer weekend a bit with a few tasty Thursday night brews. Amsterdam, Mill St., Nickel Brook and about 14 others will be on-hand to try. Tickets are $30 at the door but you can save ten bucks by buying online here.
Waterfront Blues
When: July 11-13
Where: Woodbine Park
Details: This is actually the tenth anniversary for this Beaches summer regular, but they have pushed it back a month now that they’re affiliated with the wider Beaches International Jazz Festival. It’s hard to top good weather and free live music with a bill that features Juno winners and Grammy nominees.
Toronto Fringe Festival
When: Continues through July 13
Where: 720 Bathurst St. and surrounding area
Details: The wrap-up weekend for the annual extravaganza of performance art. This year offers the usual alottment of dance and theatrics new and classic while offering a FringeKids club behind Honest Ed’s. As always, 100% of the profits reaped are returned to the artists themselves. Much has already taken place but here’s a guide to what is on offer this weekend and what has already sold out.
Erth's Dinosaur Zoo Live
When: July 12-13
Where: Panasonic Theatre (651 Yonge St.)
Details: On-loan from Australia and some 65-million years past comes a collection of lifelike dinosaur puppets. The show features a variety of educational and entertaining thrills and is put on by a touring group all the way from Sydney. The act runs about an hour and then the kids get to interact with the puppet… I mean dinosaurs afterward.
Festival of India
When: July 12-13
Where: Parade on Yonge Street / Festivities on Centre Island
Details: Now in its 42nd year, this festival draws a crowd somewhere around 40,000 people. It begins with a Ratha-Yatra parade featuring three large chariots down Yonge St. Things then head to Centre Island for an array of activities including pavillions, yoga classes, dance, drama, music and other cultural spectacles.
