Metric: definitely not just a measurement system

Toronto-grown indie rock band Metric returns to its hometown this Saturday with a new appearance at the Air Canada Centre. The group released its fifth album back in June, so you can be sure to hear new hits, such as “Youth Without Youth” and “Breathing Underwater,” but hopefully some classics like “Help, I’m Alive.”

Walking in a Waterfront wonderland

Starting this weekend, Toronto’s Waterfront will host Winterfest, which is basically a bevy of different holiday activities that will take place from Nov. 24 until Dec. 16. Join in for some festive music, theatre, family film and skating at the Harbourfront Centre. Pets can also join in on the fun and have their picture taken with Santa.

How about them apples

It’s been a big year for Snow White: in addition to two film adaptations this year, now Ross Petty Productions presents a new interpretation of the classic story in Snow White: The Deliciously Dopey Family Musical, opening this Friday at the Elgin Theatre. This rendition — which plays until January — mixes the traditional story with some pop culture twists, featuring a cast littered with theatre and comedy heavyweights.

Have an “Abbey” Christmas

Fans of the critically acclaimed BBC series Downton Abbey can feast like one of their favourite characters this Friday at the Gardiner Museum, thanks to celebrity chef Jamie Kennedy. Channeling Mrs. Patmore, Kennedy has created a five-course Christmas dinner that is suitable for even the Crawley family.

Our cup runneth over

As the Grey Cup Festival nears the end of its 10-day-run, it brings with it the big game. The Toronto Argonauts take on the Calgary Stampeders this Sunday for the cherished cup. In the meantime there’s a host of cool weekend events, with beer tents, food, live music and more.
