It’s that time of year again, Greektown. The Danforth will be abuzz this weekend with the sound of Hellenic musicians, the smell of succulent souvlaki and the sight of endless streams of people along one of the city’s busiest ethnic hotbeds. That’s because its time for the Pilaros Taste of the Danforth. On tap for this year: a stunt show, a Second City comedy show and tributes to music legends like Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond.
Toronto gets Heavy
Downsview Park will be home to plenty of tattoos, body piercings and mohawks this weekend, as metal heads from Toronto and beyond get set for the return of Heavy T.O. The two-day metal festival, in its second year of existence, will serve up an impressive roster of hardcore musicians, with Slipknot, Marilyn Manson and Cancer Bats headlining on Saturday, followed by System of a Down, Deftones and Five Finger Death Punch on the marquee for Sunday.
A “Love” Affair
Most tennis players taking part in this week’s Rogers Cup came here directly from the Olympic tournament. But unlike their experiences in London, there are no silver or bronze medals here — it’s championship or bust. Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Thornhill’s Milos Raonic are among the talented field gunning for glory at York University. This year’s winners will be determined on Sunday, with the men’s doubles final taking place at 5 p.m. and the men’s singles final scheduled for 7 p.m.
