Toronto’s gorgeous Glen Road pedestrian bridge looks days away from opening

After a number of delays, the long-awaited Glen Road pedestrian bridge appears to be just days away from reopening, with crews applying the final touches to one of Toronto’s most beloved footpaths.

The newly rebuilt Glen Road bridge, officially known as the Morley Callaghan Footbridge, spans the lush Rosedale Valley Ravine and reconnects the communities of Rosedale and north St. James Town. A vital piece of the South Rosedale Heritage Conservation District, the bridge has been closed since March 2022 for a full revitalization effort.

Now, nearly complete, the sleek new structure is set to open any day, restoring the pedestrian bridge and unveiling modern upgrades that include a barrier-free path and improved tunnel access beneath Bloor Street East.

Final work is progressing quickly. The bridge’s steel components are already in place following two scheduled weekend closures of Rosedale Valley Road in late 2023. Since then, the project has steadily advanced toward completion, with construction crews currently focused on landscaping, finishing elements, and preparing the site for public use.

The transformation includes not only the Glen Road bridge itself but also the pedestrian tunnel beneath Bloor Street East. Work on the north side of the tunnel has already wrapped up, while crews are now finalizing a new, fully accessible pathway that will link Bloor Street directly to the bridge.
