Toronto TV host Dina Pugliese says goodbye to Breakfast Television

Dina Pugliese, beloved co-host of Toronto’s Breakfast Television, announced today that after 16 years she would be leaving the show.

“I have decided it is my time to step down, ” she said during BT on Wednesday morning. “I’ll tell you this didn’t happen overnight, this has been a feeling I’ve had for a while now,” she said.

She also took to social media to give fans and her many long-time viewers an explanation for her sudden departure.

“A message from me to you,” she captioned the post. “Love you more than words can say. Please swipe left for my full message. I love you.”

Citing “crazy early hours” she goes on to say that she will use this time to go for walks with her husband Aleks “long after the sun sets” and to “have dinner with family and stay up late on a Sunday night.”

Pugliese’s celebrity friends were quick to chime in on the news.

“One of the best in the business… ever!!! I can’t wait to see what your future holds. I, of course, will follow you anywhere and everywhere,” said actor Billy Baldwin.

Darling Dina! Tearing up as I read this. What a magnificent run you’ve had—and what a loving and lasting impact you’ve had on us all! There’s no doubt this next exquisite chapter will fill you up in amazing, untold ways… Thank you for all your beauty, grace and inspiration. Love you to bits!” said television personality Jeanne Beker.

“Ahhhhhhh noooooooo!!! Wow what!! Who’s going to dance on my 6AM vibes now? Dina you’ve been such a force for our city, I want to say thank you for always making me feel so welcomed, loved and supported with every project and endeavour I’ve had,” said singer Karl Wolf.

Since taking over from Liza Fromer on Citytv’s breakfast show in 2006, Pugliese has become one of the most recognizable faces in morning television. Her warm, enthusiastic style has won her both fans and awards over the last 16 years, and she counts herself as a self-confessed junkie for celeb news and gossip.

In an interview with Streets of Toronto, Pugliese lamented on the early morning start times she’s had to endure over the years.

“You can’t go our for dinner, you have to arrange your whole life according to your hours” she said.

As for what’s next, Pugliese says she plans on dedicated more time on her beauty line The Care Principle, and saying sayonara to that 2:30 a.m. alarm clock.
