Toronto native Eugene Levy’s home one of many destroyed in horrific L.A. wildfires

Schitt’s Creek star Eugene Levy has lost his home to the Los Angeles wildfires.

Last Tuesday, the Toronto actor, 78, evacuated his home in the Pacific Palisades community as a brush fire raged into an “inferno” and spread throughout his neighbourhood. He told the Los Angeles Times that he almost found himself stuck as he attempted to flee.

“The smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon,” Levy told the publication. “I couldn’t see any flames but the smoke was very dark.”

As of last Wednesday, photos obtained by PEOPLE showed that all that remains of Levy’s property is a stone chimney and a charred row of hedges.

Many celebrities have had their homes destroyed by the ongoing fires sweeping California and are sharing updates about the damage across social media. Actors Adam Brody and Leighton Meester reportedly lost their $6.5 million home in the Pacific Palisades.  Shark Tank investor Barbara Corcoran said that her Tahitian Terrace community in the Palisades has been devastated.  JJ Redick, head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, lost his home in the fire (the Lakers even postponed last Thursday’s home game against the Charlotte Hornets as a result of the devastation).

Socialite Paris Hilton was forced to evacuate her home in Malibu last week before it was lost in the fire.

“This house wasn’t just a place to live— It was where we dreamed, laughed, and created the most beautiful memories as a family. It was where Phoenix’s little hands made art that I’ll cherish forever, where love and life filled every corner. To see it reduced to ashes… it’s devastating beyond words,” Hilton wrote in a recent Instagram post.

According to The Los Angeles County Fire Department, as of Monday, the Palisades Fire had burned more than 23,000 acres and destroyed at least 1,280 structures in the area, making it the most destructive in the history of Los Angeles County. To date, eight people have lost their lives to the fires.

An evacuation order is in place from Pacific Coast Highway on the south end to Encino Reservoir on the north end. From the east to the west, residents are advised to evacuate from Sepulveda Blvd/Sapphire Dr to Mandeville Canyon.

Canadians are also joining in the fight against the L.A. fires. Shortly after the fires started, Prime Minister Trudeau said that Canadian water bombers are already in action, and 250 firefighters are ready to be deployed.

On Sunday, federal government officials added they were coordinating with provinces to deploy more resources—60 firefighters from Alberta and B.C. are being deployed, and the government is working to identify and prepare more resources to send this week.
