This $3.995 million High Park home has a connection to an 80-year-old mystery

Backing directly onto the calm waters of Grenadier Pond and the lush expanses of High Park, 21 Grenadier Hts. is listed at $3.995 million and offers four bedrooms, five bathrooms and an enchanting landscaped garden.

In an exclusive enclave hidden amid scenic park lands and ponds in every direction, this quiet neighbourhood gives the impression of being many miles from the buzz of city life yet rests in the heart of Toronto’s vibrant west end and steps from a major Toronto theatre event.

Not only is this beautiful Tudor revival home a rarity on the market, but it also holds an intriguing history with connections to Lithuania’s hard-won independence.

After a long journey to liberation, the Baltic nation of Lithuania gained sovereignty in 1918. In its wake, many vital documents were drafted, including a series of international treaties, solidifying its global status. Democracy was short-lived, however, and when WW2 ravaged the region, these all-important documents were hurried off for safekeeping.

But in the ensuing turmoil, they disappeared.

For 80 years, the treaties were given up as lost forever until a neighbour of Lithuanian dignitary Vytautas Gylys, who once lived at 21 Grenadier Hts., discovered the documents several years ago by chance.

With the mystery finally solved, the treaties returned to Lithuania, which saw freedom restored in 1990 with the fall of the Soviet Union.
