The CNE is coming back to Toronto through a new virtual membership

Let’s go to the Ex – virtually! After two years of closures of the iconic Toronto exhibition due to the pandemic, the CNE announced Friday that they’ll be offering virtual programming called CNE Connected that will operate as a membership with both free and paid content.

By purchasing a $22 membership to the virtual experience, Torontonians will also get access to a 2022 General Admission ticket the CNE – assuming it opens next year, of course.

According to the event’s website, paid content that would come with a paid subscription includes access to a virtual escape room experience, beer tasting with Big Rock Brewery, cooking guides hosted by a few local chefs and even a virtual concert from Hamilton-based Indigenous artist Iskwe. You’ll even find activities to keep the kids engaged; the site’s “Kids eWorld” section includes a music class, Peppa Pig storytime, a magic show and a hands-on cooking class.

The announcement comes on the day some Toronto residents have noted should have been the opening day of the famous exhibition.

For many Torontonians, this marks the second year they’ve ever missed a visit to the Ex due to the pandemic, an absence that has been deeply felt by many.

From the iconic food to the sometimes unpredictable rides to memorable concerts, the city is certainly mourning the loss of this end-of-summer institution and waiting patiently for its reopening next year.

Hopefully the virtual membership can soften the blow for the time being – especially with the promise of a 2022 entrance ticket!
