Residents of Davisville can expect a new state-of-the-art community facility in their neighbourhood. On Tuesday morning, Councillor Josh Matlow and City of Toronto staff broke ground on the highly anticipated Davisville Community and Aquatic Centre, which is being built to provide recreational and wellness services to the community (so, the perfect place for residents to connect, stay active, and engage with their neighbours!)
The multi-use facility will be nestled at Yonge and Davisville and offer a ton of programming spaces and multi-purpose rooms, including a state-of-the-art 25-metre swimming pool (for both recreational swimming and swim training), a warm-water leisure pool for therapeutic use and family-friendly programming, a fitness centre with equipment for cardio, strength training, and fitness classes, and community meeting rooms and multipurpose spaces for group activities, workshops, and events.
According to Mayor Olivia Chow, everything will be accessibly designed to ensure that all community members enjoy the facility.
“The groundbreaking of the Davisville Community and Aquatic Centre is an exciting moment for Toronto. This new facility reflects our commitment to creating accessible, inclusive spaces that promote well-being and provide opportunities for people to lead healthier, more connected lives” Chow said in a statement.
The new centre will share facilities with the new Davisville Junior Public School through a partnership with the Toronto District School Board — so the school will have access to the facility’s swimming pools, while the City will have access to the school’s double gymnasium and underground parking garage outside of school hours.
The facility, expected to open in 2027, is just one of many community and recreational centres the City is investing in. In the past few years, the City has broken ground on Wallace Emerson Community Centre, Northeast Scarborough Community Recreation and Child Care Centre, and the East Bayfront Community Recreation Centre, while opening the Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Recreation Centre and Library, the One Yonge Community Recreation Centre, and the Canoe Landing Community Recreation Centre.
