Kim’s Convenience and Shang-Chi star Simu Liu is helping the design of a 69-storey development.
The Canadian actor will have his hand in the design and development of a mixed-use tower on Yonge and Dundas. 8 Elm Street is a collaboration between the actor as well as Reserve Properties and Capital Developments.
Liu will play a direct role in the creative design process while architecture, engineering, planning, and technology firm IBI Group will see out his visions with the help of interior design firm Cecconi Simone.
The 69-storey complex will have approximately 26,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor amenity spaces. Residential suites will range from studios to three bedrooms.
Liu and the rest of the team are looking to create an experience similar to a five-star hotel. Residents will have the chance to utilize the amenities to their full potential, including a fully-outfitted fitness centre which has been styled in light wood panels and reflective black ceilings. For professionals, the building will include a cooperative working space which will have meeting rooms, banquettes, a copy room and a refreshments pantry.
The building’s south side will feature two social outlooks. The first is reminiscent of a hotel bar with a social lounge vibe set against a backdrop of deep colours, marble finishes, metal detailing and a fluted bar. The other is found on the 56th floor and will be titled the Sky Club. This area will be an intimate, exclusive social club with upholstered benches, fabric-wrapped walls and a back-lit alabaster bar. Oh, and we can’t forget the private terrace access.
At the bottom level, 8 Elm Street will include opportunities for multi-level retail establishments. The city will manage around 5,000 sq. ft. of public community space along the ground level as well. The development will also donate several million dollars to aid the progression of affordable housing and other community initiatives in the area.
