This morning, Toronto Police Service released the latest news in the case of a 37-year-old Toronto man arrested following an investigation into an assault that occurred near the intersection of Yonge and King.
According to TPS, it is alleged that:
- the victim was walking on the sidewalk
- the victim was pushed by the accused and fell to the ground
- the accused fled the area prior to police arrival
- the 89-year old female victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene
As a result of the investigation, the charges have been upgraded to manslaughter and the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit have taken carriage of the investigation and this is now listed as Homicide #2/2023.
The suspect in the case was set to make his first appearance in court this morning at 1o a.m.
UPDATE: The suspect was arrested by Toronto Police nearby to the crime scene on Richmond. The suspect is likely to face charges of aggravated assault not murder, but there is a chance the charge will be upgraded depending on the results of an autopsy.
BREAKING: According to multiple reports, including Toronto Police Service Operations, a man just assaulted a woman over the lunch hour on the sidewalk near the corner of Yonge and King streets outside a fast food burger establishment.
TPS Operations reported the assault occurred at 11:39 a.m. and the victim is now deceased. The male suspect has fled the scene and is described as male, white, approximately 40 years old with red hair braided at the back, beard, thin build, wearing a brown vest, grey hoodie and blue jeans.
Toronto Police Service is searching for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately.
