About the Restaurant

Dundas West is dotted with oodles of eateries, many of which heavy-handedly populate the blogosphere. Others, like the creatively named Brazil Bakery and Pastry, are overlooked, perhaps for lacking the neighbourhood’s hipster trappings. Sitting on the corner of Dundas and Sheridan, this bakery is an unpretentious place to grab a quick bite. Housed in a large crusty white bun, the presunto sandwich with cheese ($5.20) gives you plenty of bang for your buck. Half an inch of salty presunto — a.k.a. the Portuguese version of prosciutto — takes over most of the interior real estate and is joined by a slice of havarti, as well as lettuce and tomato if desired ($0.40 each). Mayo and Dijon mustard are slathered on the bun, resulting in a tasty and inexpensive mid-afternoon meal. Be sure to bookend the sandwich with some freshly made pasteis de nata.
