It seems like Toronto has decided to skip the usual early January lull and instead offer plenty of new restaurant options including a fourth midtown spot for Anthony rose and the third Magic Noodle outpost.
Just Opened
- Anthony Rose, the darling of Dupont, now has five restaurants under his belt. Bar Begonia, with Trista Sheen and Oliver Stern in charge, opened in late December with a "Paris-meets-Brooklyn" essence.
- In 2015, laffa quietly made a case to be the new taco and the Thornhill-based group King David Laffa Grill opened their second location at 5999 Bathurst St.
- Magic Noodle is quickly expanding and added a third location at 93 Harbord to the two they already have.
Coming Soon
- Brad Moore seems to have a thing for 24-hour restaurants. His upcoming project, Recess at 60 Sudbury St., will have an all-night diner in common with his current spot, Old School.
- These days not many Toronto restaurants maintain a dress code. But when American steakhouse chain STK opens in Yorkville running shoes and other athletic wear will be clothing non gratis.
Changes and Other News
- The space at 50 Clinton, just north of College seems to be unlucky for restaurants. Backwoods Smokehouse, the most recent tenant after Red Sauce and Acadia, has closed.
- The Bayview News reports that Doria on Yonge has closed and a "new and innovative concept" is slated to go in there this year. The Food Dudes bought the space in Rosedale from its longtime owner and have been operating it as a casual Italian spot since spring 2015.
