Lunch Pick: Flock’s Frenchy salad delivers an all-in-one meal

When Cory Vitiello of the now-shuttered Harbord Room opened his mini chicken empire, Flock, it was the juicy chicken that got people all hot and bothered. Yes, a spiffy French Rotisol oven does tend to cause excitement, but despite its moniker, people aren’t just flocking to Flock for that rotisserie chicken. Those who tend to sidestep meat for lunch (and beyond) will be impressed by the salad program.

Available in either full ($11.50) or half sizes ($8), their green bowls are an easy grab ’n’ go option for lunch. The Frenchy number begins with a bed of arugula loaded up with crisp vine beans, roasted cauliflower and a smattering of French lentils. Cucumber crescents — with the centres oh-so-carefully removed — sit next to sweet peppers and a few cherry tomatoes. Addictive crispy onions and a hard boiled egg round out the ingredients, though avocado lovers can add slices for an extra toonie. The whole affair is tossed with a roasted tomato, olive and caper vinaigrette ending in a salad that’s not only healthy, but incredibly tasty.

And hey, should you decide you need some roast bird after all, you can always add it on top.
