A famous golf course in Oakville that has hosted the RBC Canadian Open, a PGA Tour event, and Canada’s National Open Championship 30 times was saturated with flood water after severe flooding hit the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Tuesday.
The Glen Abbey Golf Club closed after most of its course was submerged underwater during Tuesday’s storm. The storm system resulted in upwards of 75 mm of rainfall at a number of locations across Oakville, causing the waters of 16-Mile Creek to overflow its banks. However, the course’s director of operations confirmed that they intend to reopen this Friday.

On Tuesday afternoon, Conservation Halton issued a statement, notifying residents that all watercourses and shoreline areas should be considered dangerous during this time.
“Conservation Halton is asking all residents to stay away from watercourses, shorelines and structures such as bridges, culverts, dams and break walls. High water levels, fast flowing water, and slippery conditions along stream banks and shorelines make these locations extremely dangerous,” the statement said, adding that the flood warning will be in effect through to Wednesday.
Meanwhile, clean-up continues across Toronto after Tuesday’s record-breaking rainfall. Environment Canada reported that 97.8 mm of rain fell on Tuesday, surpassing the city’s July 16 rainfall record and ranking as one of the city’s top five daily rain events.
