Historic DVP bike ride is back with a new mission and celebs in tow

Each year, over 10,000 cyclists hit the pavement for a traffic-free bike ride along the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway, and this year participants can ride with purpose.

This year’s highway trek, the Bike for Brain Health, will be in support of brain health awareness to support world-leading research, innovation, and care through Baycrest, an organization that has been fighting dementia for over a century. Looking to dust off your wheels and hit the open highway? You’ll be in good company!

You’ll also see Toronto Maple Leafs legend and Hall-of-Famer Darryl Sittler cycling for the cause, alongisde Canadian television sportscaster and long-time supporter of dementia-related causes, Caroline Cameron.

“As we rebuild our great city post-pandemic, Bike for Brain Health renews our sense of hope and enthusiasm,” Tory said in a press release.

The DVP bike ride, which has been around since 1988, has previously been devoted to other causes, including the “Ride for Heart” in support of raising funds for heart and stroke research.

This year’s event will offers three different routes – a 25 km, 50 km and 75 km ride. The furthest ride loops from the Gardiner Expressway all the way to York Mills Road, down to South Kingsway and back.

The DVP and the Gardiner will be closed from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. in both directions to make room for the event.
