There was an air of excitement in the air—fresh off a win the night before, our Toronto Blue Jays seemed poised to carry it forward into a streak. And what better way to celebrate than the opening of Garrison Creek Bat Co.’s “Season Opener,” which took over the Steamwhistle Brewery last night.
The third art show put on the by the Toronto-based company (which crafts truly covetable baseball bats) featured art and baseball-bats-turned-art (by way of painting, carving, or otherwise adorning) from more than 30 artists. The designs on display ran the gamut from baseball-themed to borderline creepy, but whimsy was evident across the board.
There was also the opportunity to win a hand-crafted GCBC bat signed by MLB Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar with all proceeds benefitting Jays Care.
The food, catered by Marigolds and Onions, included build-your-own sliders and hot dogs, veggies, and soft pretzels; the perfect snacks for watching our hometown boys perform. And that we did—after taking a turn around the room, many settled in over one of the baskets of flawlessly spiced potato chips to watch the game on the flatscreen over the bar, Steamwhistle bottle (or glass of Coyote's Run wine) in hand.
The exhibit is on at Steamwhistle Brewery (255 Bremner Blvd.) until Apr. 30.
