Ontario reported 325 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths on Monday — a decrease from the 423 new cases reported on Sunday (the first time the province reported over 400 new cases of COVID-19 since June) and lower than the 378 new cases recorded on Saturday.
Out of the new cases, there are 90 new cases in Toronto, 47 in Peel Region, 29 in York Region, 29 in Hamilton, and 26 in Windsor-Essex.
As of Monday, the province’s total COVID-19 death toll is 9,407.
The province also reported 157 cases of the Delta variant in the last 24-hours, bringing the total number of infections to 5,380. There were no new cases of the Beta variant (with a cumulative caseload of 1,493) and only one new case of the Alpha variant (with a cumulative total of 145,593).
As of Monday, 19,902,159 doses of approved COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Ontario out of 24,045,831 doses delivered to the province for administration, meaning 82.8% of doses delivered to Ontario have been administered. Approximately 81.646% of people 12+ in Ontario have received at least one dose and 72.247% of people 12+ in Ontario are fully vaccinated.
The province’s seven-day rolling average sits at 283 (an increase from 189 recorded just over a week ago), leaving some experts warning that a fourth wave has already begun.

The Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario is calling on the provincial government to implement mandatory vaccine passports and mandatory vaccines for healthcare workers/education workers to offset the next wave.

Others are criticizing the province’s back-to-school plan released last week—although students (from grades 1 to 12) will be required, for the most part, to wear masks while indoors, they will not be required to take COVID-19 vaccines.

Meanwhile, Sabrina Craig, Vaccine Hunters Canada Director, told CBC’s Power & Politics that the group has decided to wind down operations, with its last social media posts taking place on August 31.

The social media tool helped people track down vaccine appointments, and will soon point people toward automated search tools, such as Find Your Immunization and Vaccine DIY.
