Lunch Pick: Smoked salmon eggs Benny at Drake One Fifty

Never content to sit still, The Drake is shaking things up once again. This weekend, the Financial District chapter — Drake One Fifty — will debut brunch with a capital B. Already popular with the suited set who head there for power lunches and boozy cinq-à-septs, Drake One Fifty aims to slow things down a notch, letting patrons ease into the weekend at a more leisurely pace.

Seat yourself in the nook decked out with Gary Baseman’s lively mural, which sees the artist’s signature quirky-cool figures dancing across the space.

Food-wise, exec chef Ted Corrado and chef de cuisine Jon Pong have used The Drake Hotel’s popular brunch menu as a point of departure. To start, tuck into some pint-sized blueberry scones smeared with sweet cream. For the main, our pick is the salmon Benny, wherein homemade biscuits come topped with two perfectly poached eggs, house-smoked salmon and plenty of hollandaise. If you’ve room, split the French toast for dessert. It arrives at your table in an adorable skillet piled up with large slices of thick-cut bacon, an apple-rhubarb compote and a drizzle of Amaretto. (Lace with maple syrup if you need an extra injection of sugar.)

And for those hankering for a taste of blueberry scones without sitting down for a whole meal, stay tuned for a new Drake bakery, set to open soon next to the original Queen West location.

Brunch starts April 2 at Drake One Fifty, 150 York St., 416-363-6150
