Date Night: From busking to burlesque to close out the summer

Alas, summer is almost over. And that means the weekends will no longer be filled with festivals and concerts that close down the streets and take over the city.

So, before it’s too late, hit up some of the last August festivals and enjoy the warm weather before fall snatches it away from us.

This weekend, Yonge Street will be taken over by Buskerfest. The event is free, though a donation to Epilepsy Toronto is recommended.

The festival takes over Yonge from Queen Street up to College with 10 different stages. There’s also an element of surprise as the schedules will be posted daily.

So if you’re hoping to see one act in particular, you may have to camp out at the festival all weekend long to make sure you catch them.

But, as the festival is aimed for all music and talent lovers, you’ll be pleased with all the performers. Some favourites include Jenny Jupiter, Kate Mior (Marie Antionette), beatboxer Scott Jackson and of course, Silver Elvis.

There will also be circus acts, magicians, stilt dancers, and many other performers ready to wow you with their abilities.

If you haven’t gotten your fill of costumes, performances and impeccable makeup after a day at Buskerfest, head north to take in the Burlesque Festival after the sun goes down.

With various events and performances taking place at the Mod Club and Revival Bar throughout the weekend, you can catch some of the best artists from New York City, Montreal and Toronto.

Grab a full weekend pass for $100, or pick and choose which nights you plan to go out and spend between $25 and $40 at the door.
