If ’60s mod is the look you’re going for this spring, you’ll be pleased to know that Banana Republic’s third Mad Men collection hit stores yesterday. This time around, the women’s collection is mainly inspired by the mod-tastically dressed character Megan Draper, played by Montreal-born actress Jessica Paré.

Shop Talk: James Perse brings L.A. chic to Yorkville

Though Los Angeles designer label James Perse already has two locations in Canada (one in Vancouver and the other in Montreal), the recently opened Toronto location is considered the flagship store of the true north strong and free. Found a little off of the main strip in Yorkville, the store, which opened Nov. 7, has two floors and 2,100 square feet of retail space housing various items of the casual-chic nature.

Though Davido Afnani opened his eponymous menswear boutique on King West only two months ago, he has already garnered a few affluent Toronto names for his clientele. Aside from the expected Bay Street regulars that frequent his boutique, Toronto Raptor Jamaal Magloire and hometown rapper Kardinal Offishall have been known to drop by the “one-stop shop,” as Afnani puts it.

Shop Talk: Mi Janeaux, a Woodbridge staple, opens a fashion boutique in North York

Mary Di Pede has already enjoyed much success. She’s gone from opening her first Mi Janeaux boutique in Woodbridge 21 years ago to styling Breakfast Television’s Dina Pugliese to participating in on-air segments for the show, but that doesn’t mean she’s resting on her laurels. Yesterday, Di Pede opened a second, 1,300-square-foot Mi Janeaux location in North York.

The only problem as that purchasing a charm like this for yourself is considered bad luck; in order for it to protect you, it will need to be given to you by someone else.

After closing its stores in Ottawa and Montreal, independent bookstore Nicholas Hoare has announced that its flagship Toronto location will close on April 1. The store is known for its unique décor, its finely curated book selection and its British charm.
