Cheap Eat of the Week: the crazy-fresh oysters from Diana’s Seafood

Shucking around (Image: Gizelle Lau)

For some of the freshest oysters in the city, it’s worth making the trek out to Lawrence and Warden to visit Diana’s Seafood Delight. Though it may seem unlikely that some of the best oysters and seafood in the city can be found in Scarborough (spoken like a true downtowner), Diana’s Seafood has been supplying some of the city’s top restaurants for years.

The original seafood shop has been open for over two decades, and you can drop in and pick up a box of oysters there at wholesale price — you just need to know how to shuck ’em!

If you’re looking for a quick taste, Diana’s opened the adjacent Oyster Bar & Grill about a year and a half ago. Here, you can order from a dozen varieties of oysters (at $1.60-$4/oyster), which are shucked to order, complete with a side of hand-grated horseradish.
